The Value of Radon Testing

Most San Jose homebuyers understand that before purchasing a property, a thorough home inspection is essential to the process. However, what not all buyers consider is the value of a radon inspection. While radon testing isn’t typically included in a regular home inspection, our crew at Wall 2 Wall Property Inspections urges you to consider adding it on as a specialty service.

Here’s why: Radon is an odorless, invisible gas that forms through the natural, radioactive breakdown of uranium, thorium, and radium found in rocks, soil, and sometimes water beneath the ground. This gas can then leak into your home or office through cracks or even through a well-water supply that has been exposed to radon. You can’t see, smell, or taste radon, which means you can ingest it in without even knowing. Radon is not limited to a specific part of the country and can affect homes, schools, offices, and other businesses.

This gas can be very hazardous to the health of you and your loved ones. The EPA is very clear that radon is both cancer-causing and radioactive. Behind smoking, radon exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.

Before you start panicking, know that radon testing is your first line of defense in determining whether this gas is present in a home. At Wall 2 Wall, we offer radon testing as part of our specialty services.  If our inspectors detect radon, then you can make an informed decision whether to walk away from the property or negotiate for radon remediation or other reparations.

Don’t assume whether a Santa Clara County property has radon present or not. Know for sure by scheduling radon testing with Wall 2 Wall, either a la carte or in addition to your regular home inspection. All you have to do is contact us at (408) 905-9255  during business hours, or schedule online anytime.
